Class Types

Iyengar Yoga is dynamic, physical and rejuvenating. It is suited to all ages and fitness levels, making yoga accessible to all bodies at all stages of life. There is an emphasis on precision and alignment in all poses and the appropriate use of props and sequencing, with teachers monitoring students and making adjustments.

Beginner

Beginner classes are for students with no prior yoga experience or those returning to yoga after an extended break. Our beginner classes are recorded classes only and include the following:

  • A FREE 6-Week Beginner Course. You get free access to these classes for 3 months. The classes are not suitable if you have chronic illness, major injuries or are pregnant. If you are unsure, please email us at info@marrickvilleyoga.com.au. Please sign-up here to access the classes.
  • An 8-Week Beginner Course with Simon.
  • 40 x 1 hour Beginner Classes.

Once these classes have been completed, students should be ready to attend our General classes.

General

General Classes are for students with some yoga experience. Students continue to consolidate the Beginner poses and are introduced to newer poses such as inversions and backbends. It is expected that students in General Classes are comfortable in the setup and practice of Salamba Sarvangasana (Shoulderstand) and Sirsasana (Headstand). Alternatives will be offered for students who do not practice inversions.

 

We have a committed and dedicated team of teachers who bring an innovative, practical, creative and friendly approach to Iyengar Yoga. Further details about our teachers can be found here.

Led Practices

Led Practices are for experienced students. In these classes the teacher is practicing with the students at the same time, so students need to know the yoga poses and how they need to adjust if they have any restrictions. These classes include:

  • Hips Led Practice (General level Students are welcome to join this class).
  • Backbends Led Practice.
  • Dynamic Led Practice (flow).

Pranayama

Pranayama is yogic breathing and we have 1 class per week. A general pranayama class with Simon Joannou which is suitable for students with limited experience with pranayama. Further details for our Pranayama Classes can be found here.

 

Our weekly online membership is cheaper than the price of one class at most yoga studios. Just AUD20 per week by direct debit for 9 live online classes per week and hundreds of recorded classes in our Content Library that can be practiced at anytime that is suitable for you. Stephanie Quirk

Stephanie Quirk is a world leader in the field of Yoga Therapeutics, having spent 20 years living, studying and working directly with the Iyengar family at the Ramanani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute (RIMYI) in Pune, India. Periodically throughout the year Stephanie holds online workshops which represent investigation and learning for experienced students, teachers and teacher trainees. They represent a great opportunity for professional development. We have an extensive library of recorded classes that are available for rent. These classes are NOT included in our memberships and are paid for separately.

Gulnaaz Dashti

Specialist classes with Senior Teacher Gulnaaz Dashti from the Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute (RIMYI) in Pune India. These class are suitable for experienced students, teachers and trainee teachers. They represent a great opportunity for professional development. We have an extensive library of recorded classes that are available for rent. These classes are NOT included in our memberships and are paid for separately.
